Constant torque

With constant torque loads, the torque loading is not a function of speed. Typical applications are: Traction drives, Compressors, Conveyors, Positive displacement pumps and Hoists. As the speed changes, the load torque remains constant and the horsepower changes linearly with speed. Constant torque loads cause motors to draw relatively high current at low speeds when compared to variable torque applications. This is why the same size drive may have a lower HP rating for Constant Torque applications.



Constant torque loads. These loads represent 90% of all general industrial machines (other than pumps and fans). Examples of these load types include general machinery, hoists, conveyors, printing presses, positive displacement pumps, some mixers and extruders, reciprocating compressors, as well as rotary compressors.

If you know the curve torque-speed in an electrical, you have to know that when the motor has a high velocity, then its torque is low and by the other way, if you have a high torque, the speed is low then.

The difference is, when you need a speed controller or torque controller. Normally, it depends of your speed consideration, if you have sized well your machine in speed or torque, (controlled and motor geared) you shouldn't have any problem, but whether you have not done that, or your client wants another considerations at the last moment, and you need to control your motor control under of 10-15 Hz, with a speed control, you feel a problem in the motor which his axis doesn't linearly. Then, you would have 2 possibilities, the most complicated but the most recommended (in my opinion) is to change the motor geared with the news specifications. The second solution is to get a VFD with Vector control (Torque Control).

It is the load that you have to be concerned about in the first instance. Is the load variable torque such as a centrifugal fan or pump or is a constant torque load such as a conveyor. If a variable torque load what is the power at the maximum speed you require. If a constant torque load what torque do you require and what turn down ratio are you looking for? When you know these things the selection of the motor and variable frequency drive is a very simple process.

This super simple design of an inverter circuit does not limit it in any way from providing a high output power and an efficiency of a good 75%. Learn how to build an inverter that will satisfy most of your power requirement at quite an affordable cost.
The article deals with the construction details of a mini inverter. Read to know how to build an inverter which can provide reasonably good power output and yet is very affordable and sleek.
There may be a huge number of inverter circuits available over the internet and electronic magazines. But these circuits are often very complicated and hi-end type of inverters. Thus we are left with no choice but just to wonder how to build an inverter that can be not only easy to build but also low cost and highly efficient in its working. Well your search for such a circuit ends here. The circuit of an inverter described here is perhaps the smallest as far its component count goes yet is powerful enough to fulfill most of your requirements.

Construction Procedure

This mini inverter circuit can be completed through the following simple steps:
Cut two sheets of aluminum of 6/4 inches each.
Bend one end of the sheet as shown in the diagram. Drill appropriate sized holes on to the bends so that it can be clamped firmly to the metal cabinet.
Also drill holes for fitting of the power transistors. The holes are 3mm in diameter, TO-3 type of package size.
Fix the transistors tightly on to the heatsinks with the help of nuts and bolts.
Connect the resistors in a cross-coupled manner directly to the leads of the transistors as per the circuit diagram.
Now join the heatsink, transistor, resistor assembly to the secondary winding of the transformer.





Fix the whole circuit assembly along with the transformer inside a sturdy, well ventilated metal enclosure.
Fit the output and input sockets, fuse holder etc. externally to the cabinet and connect them appropriately to the circuit assembly.

Parts Required for the simple inverter circuit diagram

You will require just the following few components for the construction:

R1, R2= 100 OHMS./ 10 WATTS WIRE WOUND

R3, R4= 15 OHMS/ 10 WATTS WIRE WOUND

T1, T2 = 2N3055 POWER TRANSISTORS (MOTOROLA).

TRANSFORMER= 12- 0- 12 VOLTS / 8 AMPS.

AUTOMOBILE BATTERY= 12 VOLTS/ 32AH

ALUMINUM HEATSINK= CUT AS PER THE REQUIRED SIZE.

VENTILATED METAL CABINET= AS PER THE SIZE OF THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY

How to Test it?

The testing of this mini inverter is done in the following method:
For testing purpose connect a 60 watt incandescent bulb to the output socket of the inverter.
Next, connect a fully charged 12 V automobile battery to its supply terminals.
The 60 watt bulb should immediately light up brightly, indicating that the inverter is functioning properly.
This concludes the construction and the testing of the inverter circuit.
I hope from the above discussions you must have clearly understood how to build an inverter which is not only simple to construct but also very affordable to each of you.
It can be used to power small electrical appliances like soldering iron, CFL lights, small portable fans etc. The output power will lie in the vicinity of 70 watts and is load dependent.

Circuit Description

The functioning of this mini inverter circuit is rather unique and different from the normal inverters which involve discrete oscillator stage for powering the transistors.
However here the two sections or the two arms of the circuit operate in a regenerative manner. Its very simple and may be understood through the following points:
The two halves of the circuit no matter how much they are matched will always consist a slight imbalance in the parameters surrounding them, like the resistors, Hfe, transformer winding turns etc.
Due to this, both the halves are not able to conduct together at one instant.
Assume that the upper half transistors conduct first, obviously they will be getting their biasing voltage through the lower half winding of the transformer via R2.
However the moment they saturate and conduct fully, the entire battery voltage is pulled through their collectors to the ground.
This sucks out dry any voltage through R2 to their base and they immediately stop conducting.
This gives an opportunity for the lower transistors to conduct and the cycle repeats.
The whole circuit thus starts to oscillate.
The base Emitter resistors are used to fix a particular threshold for their conduction to break, they help to fix a base biasing reference level.

A:Link is provided at a Neutral common point in the circuit from which various connection are taken for the individual control circuit and so it is given in a link form to withstand high Amps. But in the case of Fuse in the Phase of AC circuit it is designed such that the fuse rating is calculated for the particular circuit (i.e load) only.So if any malfunction happen the fuse connected in the particular control circuit alone will blow off.

A:The difference between the electroic and ordinary regulator is that in electronic reg. power losses are lessi.e.for as we decrese the speed the electronic reg. give the power needed for that perticular speed but in case of ordinary rh type reg. the power wastage is same for every speed and no power is saved.In electronic regulator triac is employed for speed cntrl.by varying the firing angle speed is controled but inrheostatic ctrl resistance is decreased by steps to achieve speed control.

1. What is a System?
When a number of elements or components are connected in a sequence to perform a specific function, the group of elements that all constitute a System
2. What is Control System?
In a System the output and inputs are interrelated in such a manner that the output quantity or variable is controlled by input quantity, then such a system is called Control System.
The output quantity is called controlled variable or response and the input quantity is called command signal or excitation.

3. What are different types of Control Systems?
Two major types of Control Systems are 1) Open loop Control System 2) Closed Loop Control Systems
Open loop Control Systems:The Open loop Control System is one in which the Output Quantity has no effect on the Input Quantity. No feedback is present from the output quantity to the input quantity for correction.
Closed Loop Control System:The Closed loop Control System is one in which the feedback is provided from the Output quantity to the input quantity for the correction so as to maintain the desired output of the system.

4. What is a feedback in Control System?
The Feedback in Control System in one in which the output is sampled and proportional signal is fed back to the input for automatic correction of the error ( any change in desired output) for futher processing to get back the desired output.
5. Why Negative Feedback is preffered in the Control System?
The role of Feedback in control system is to take the sampled output back to the input and compare output signal with input signal for error ( deviation from the desired result).
Negative Feedback results in the better stability of the system and rejects any disturbance signals and is less sensitive to the parameter variations. Hence in control systems negative feedback is considered.

6. What is the effect of positive feedback on stability of the system?
Positive feedback is not used generally in the control system because it increases the error signal and drives the system to instability. But positive feedbacks are used in minor loop control systems to amplify certain internal signals and parameters
7. What is Latching current?
Gate signal is to be applied to the thyristor to trigger the thyristor ON in safe mode. When the thyristor starts conducting the forward current above the minimum value, called Latching current, the gate signal which is applied to trigger the device in no longer require to keep the scr in ON position.
8. What is Holding current ?
When scr is conducting current in forward conduction state, scr will return to forward blocking state when the anode current or forward current falls below a low level called Holding current
Note: Latching current and Holding current are not same. Latching current is associated with the turn on process of the scr whereas holding current is associated with the turn off process. In general holding current will be slightly lesser than the latching current.

9. Why thyristor is considered as Charge controlled device?
During the triggering process of the thyristor from forward blocking state to forward conduction state through the gate signal, by applying the gate signal (voltage between gate and cathode) increases the minority carrier density in the p-layer and thereby facilitate the reverse break over of the junction J2 and thyristor starts conducting. Higher the magnitude of the gate current pulse, lesser is the time required to inject the charge and turning on the scr. By controlling the amount of charge we can control the turning on time of the scr.
10. What are the different losses that occur in thyristor while operating?
Different losses that occur are
a)Forward conduction losses during conduction of the thyristor
b)Loss due to leakage current during forward and reverse blocking.
c)Power loss at gate or Gate triggering loss.

Knee point voltage is calculated for electrical Current transformers and is very important factor to choose a CT. It is the voltage at which a CT gets saturated.(CT-current transformer).

Reverse Power flow relay are used in generating stations's protection. A generating stations is supposed to fed power to the grid and in case generating units are off,there is no generation in the plant then plant may take power from grid. To stop the flow of power from grid to generator we use reverse power relay.
13. What will happen if DC supply is given on the primary of a transformer?
Mainly transformer has high inductance and low resistance.In case of DC supply there is no inductance ,only resistance will act in the electrical circuit. So high electrical current will flow through primary side of the transformer.So for this reason coil and insulation will burn out.

Isolators are mainly for switching purpose under normal conditions but they cannot operate in fault conditions .Actually they used for isolating the CBs for maintenance. MCCB moulded case circuit breaker and is thermal operated for over load current and magnetic operation for instant trip in short circuit condition.under voltage and under frequency may be inbuilt. It is an inverse definite minimum time relay.In IDMT relay its operating is inversely proportional and also a characteristic of minimum time after which this relay operates.It is inverse in the sense ,the tripping time will decrease as the magnitude of fault current increase.

TRANSFORMER LOSSES - Transformer losses have two sources-copper loss and magnetic loss. Copper losses are caused by the resistance of the wire (I2R). Magnetic losses are caused by eddy currents and hysteresis in the core. Copper loss is a constant after the coil has been wound and therefore a measurable loss. Hysteresis loss is constant for a particular voltage and current. Eddy-current loss, however, is different for each frequency passed through the transformer.

We know there are three types of power in Electricals as Active, apparent & reactive. So KVAR is stand for ``Kilo Volt Amps with Reactive component.

Since two bulbs are in series they will get equal amount of electrical current but as the supply voltage is constant across the bulb(P=V^2/R).So the resistance of 40W bulb is greater and voltage across 40W is more (V=IR) so 40W bulb will glow brighter.
30. Why temperature rise is conducted in bus bars and isolators? 
Bus bars and isolators are rated for continuous power flow, that means they carry heavy currents which rises their temperature. so it is necessary to test this devices for temperature rise.

In simple, synchronous generator supply's both active and reactive power but asynchronous generator(induction generator) supply's only active power and observe reactive power for magnetizing.This type of generators are used in windmills.

AVR is an abbreviation for Automatic Voltage Regulator.It is important part in Synchronous Generators, it controls theoutput voltage of the generator by controlling its excitation current. Thus it can control the output Reactive Power of the Generator.
